Our Legacy

Since 1984, TED has brought together bold innovators, creators, and changemakers to share ideas with the power to shape our future. Rooted in Technology, Entertainment, and Design, TED has grown into a global platform for meaningful thinking across nearly every discipline imaginable.

The TEDx movement began in 2009, extending that spirit to locally organized events around the world. TEDxPortland has been part of that story from the beginning — creating a stage where unexpected voices, courageous ideas, and distinctly Portland collaborations can come together.

Today, there are more than 4,200 TEDx organizations worldwide. We are deeply honored to have been recognized by TED leadership as one of the movement’s leading events for our speaker content, performances, collaborations, production, scale, and overall experience. It is a distinction we hold with gratitude — and one that belongs to the remarkable community that has built TEDxPortland year after year.

More than 75 volunteers contribute their time, talent, creativity, and heart to bring each event to life. Alongside our speakers, performers, partners, and audience - the legacy created is far greater than any one person or moment.
